    Female gained weight unusually fast

So I bought an adult pastel female on Nov 20 she's was 1756g she has missed one meal since then every week she gets a med-lrg rat she is now 2600g Is this her getting ready for breeding?? I've been pairing her with my spider male no visual Locks yet just seems like a lot to gain in such a short time

I would never feed a BP anything bigger than a medium rat. She's probably prepping for breeding. Best of luck!

I thought you were supposed to feed about 10% of their body weight once they get a certain size isn't medium to small

My normal male is 2200 grams and eats medium rats once a week and he is still (slowly) gaining weight.

The 10-15% rule is only for hatchlings and juvis.
I feed my adults smalls. Sometimes a medium for the big girls.

Was she underweight when you bought her? Ive seen fast weight gain like that in adults (age) that are underweight.

Like others have said, you may be feeding her too much. All of my breeders get a small once a week. Anyone over about 2200g gets a medium.

I feed off small, medium and large.
Yes I do go by weights and have had people harp on me for feeding to large when posting that way, some forget that there are a range to those sizes.
Then again I also feed till they refuse.

I will say 150g/month is about average for here, although not being unheard that 300g+ a month is out of the range of possibilities. An underfed bp will eat like that given the chance. She will probably crap out 200g pretty soon..

Big, hungry, aggressive females that strike prey within seconds will get a medium rat. The rest get smalls..... sometimes 2 or 3 smalls. Out of ~40 big females there are only 4-5 that are aggressive enough that I will throw in a well fed and watered medium rat. If a medium rat nips your great eating female, watch her go off feed for a month.....

I have plenty of medium and large breeder rats that I cycle through. I do not feed them off to the collection. They get traded in to the local shop for smalls. Plenty of boa people out there to feed off medium and large rats to.

I don't mind doing a reconnaissance mission on a small rat that was not taken by a bp, but try taking a scared medium rat out of a V-70 tub with a big pissed off female bp. It can get messy....
