    Rodent Gas Chamber

    Greetings all,

I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I was planning to make a rodent gas chamber to humanely kill my rats prior to feeding them to my snakes or freezing them for future feedings. Just wanted to show everybody the end result.

Thanks to a very nice Wal-Mart employee, it only cost me around $25 to make it and another $10 for some CO2 cartridges. Very effective. Now, I can protect the snakes that I don't want hurt my rats, and make the deaths of the rats less painful.

Hey…great job!! I really appreciate it when I see people caring enough about their feeders to be humane to them when euthanizing them. Awesome!!

Cool set up. One assumes you only put down a very small number at a time since your set up is so small, but it's a nice one.

Currently, all my snakes are on rat pups, so they are pretty small anyways. My first trial with it, I did 5 rats and had plenty of space left. I don't think I'd try more than 10 pups in this current setup, though. Luckily, the CO2 pump just screws on to the valve stem. When I need to go up in size, I just need to buy a larger container and put another valve stem on it. I won't have to buy another pump.

Not bad. I use Styrofoam boxes used for live fish but looks like your setup could be sufficient for what you need. Good luck!

    Re: Rodent Gas Chamber

What is the valve assembly called? I'd like to set one up like this, so I want to know what to look/ask for. How finely can you control the flow with it? Thanks.

Sorry, didn't see that you had said it was a tire inflation valve with a valve stem. What did you use to seal around the valve stem? Were you able to let the co2 enter slowly with this setup? Thanks.
