    Re: Breeding info

The answer is... Maybe.. To be honest unless they are quality animals then they will not sell. The poss hets from the het albino breeding will most likely not sell as what they are and you would only be able to sell them as normals. The pastels, spiders, bees, and normals from the other pairing will not net all that much at all to be honest. So to put this bluntly... If you are not willing to and able to keep every single baby you produce then do not breed them. I am not trying to be harsh but that is the reality of breeding snakes.

I want to start off by saying that advertising is not allowed on this forum and your post sounds like you already want to have buyers lined up. Not only that, but you're asking people to basically buy your babies now when they don't even exist. Even if you START breeding now, it could be this time next year (or even later) until you actually get babies. That's a long time to wait for babies. What if the female doesn't take? What if the eggs die? There are a lot of "ifs" in this scenario. You should only offer babies for sale that are eating and ready to go.

As for if people will buy them, that depends. Let's start with the bumblebee clutch. You'll have an easier time selling these if they are FEMALE. Male pastel and spiders aren't worth much and you'll probably sit on them for a couple of months or more until the right buyer comes along. How well the pastels and bumblebees sell will depend on the quality of pastel in them. If they are really brown and dirty, then they won't sell very easily. It's all about quality. If you don't have the quality, then people won't be as excited to buy your animals.

Now, for the albino clutch. You may be able to sell the leftover albinos. If they are high contrast, it'll be easier to sell them. For the possible hets, you'll have to sell them as normals and you better pray you don't have many PH males.

Being a new breeder (which it sounds like you are), it'll add an additional factor to if you can sell your babies. People are getting smart about buying and want to buy from someone who's well known and trusted in the hobby. That doesn't necessarily mean the big names, but it means people who post frequently on facebook, the forums, etc. If you just show up one day selling babies, you'll be less likely to sell them than if you had taken the time to get known in the community.

I hope that made some sense and gave you a little bit of information you need to make an informed decision.

For instance, I have 5 babies left from last season that just aren't selling. I've reduced my prices heavily, advertise in the right places with mostly up to date ads, etc. yet they are still around. Female multi-gene morphs too, not normal males.

I've had them for 5-6 months at this point and if I didn't breed my own rats, I would have already spent more than their value keeping them fed on a 2 week feeding schedule. This is a reality I was prepared for and it's still frustrating. To not be prepared for it would have been very disheartening at this point.

Im sorry I did not mean to make it sound like I was trying to advertise, I know some factors but I was just wondering if any body is interested in these morphs. And I am not breeding to make a quick buck I love ball pythons and I want to breed to expand my collection and to help people start theirs off, but in your opinion what morphs do you think a interested buyer might be looking at in your opinion.

Also are you going to be able to ship? I understand what your wanting to do, but like others have already said, its going to depend on the quality of the babies. The better the quality the better chanches they may go.

    Re: Breeding info

I know before I even started thinking about breeding I made sure I could afford to feed and keep ALL the offspring in case I couldn't sell my babies. I'm really hoping I don't end up with 200 balls that won't sell a year from now, but if I do still have them I have the funds and space to keep them all. Not to mention I'm self employed and work from home so I can easily care for them. However, in anticipation of my clutches I've contacted several huge breeders that are regularly looking for large quantities of snakes and asked them about their options. They were upfront with me about the fact that they wouldn't be able to give me near as much money as I would sell the snakes for, but I do intend to trade a rather large portion of all my snakes for higher end morphs to these breeders, or at the very least sell all my normals, male singe genes, and my hets to them for cheap so I'm not having to take care of them and feed them.

Oh, and also these big breeders made it very clear to me that the only way they would buy hets (meaning at het prices) from me was with documented paperwork proving genetics. I can't just say the hets are a from an albino/het albino or pied/het pied pairing and they'll take my word on it. The big breeders are very firm about their customer guarantees so unless you have good paperwork (meaning you can prove where you got the parent snakes) they will only buy the hets as normals and advertise them as Poss hets. That means they can't sell them as much, so I can't sell them as much.

At least that's what I was told by the people I spoke to. And I think that is very fair. Like many I'm not getting into breeding to make gads of money. If I can break even in the next six years I'll call my breeding operation a success. I'm mainly in this so I can produce the animals I want and trade for other reptiles I have my eye on. I'm looking to make far less than what I put into my operation over the next three to six years.
