    Egg went bad *graphic

It finally happened...an egg went bad late into incubation. The baby died around day 45ish(I think).
No movement in the egg, veins disappeared, then it started to stink.
I need some opinions on what she would've been. Pairing was pastel(first timer)x spinnerblast.

Its at the very least a spinner.
Can't be certain on what else though since color and pattern are the last things to develop.

    Re: Egg went bad *graphic

I'm still pretty upset that this one didn't make it. This was my most anticipated clutch of all time and it's hard to lose one. Her back was kinked towards her tail in a couple places. It looks like her belly was fused in one spot near her vent(not where the umbilicus was attached), so Im worried the rest of the clutch might have deformities as well.
There was NO incubation fluctuations. Temp was between 88.9/89.5 the entire time. The rest of the eggs are on day 52 today with no pippers yet, but movement and veins are still strong. Hopefully the rest(7 eggs) will go term and turn out healthy.
Here are the parents, just because.

    Re: Egg went bad *graphic

Keep your chin up! Last season I had a 6 egg clutch (pastel x lesser) and I lost 4 of them. All four died around day 30 in incubation. I cut open the babies and they too were kinked up and looking rather deformed. There were no temp fluctuations and the clutch that hatched just 10 days prior to this one had 10 healthy babies. On day 56, a pastel and a pastel lesser female pipped.

It could be that you just had bad luck with that egg. Things happen. At least you have a good sized clutch to have faith in!

Lovely sire and dam, here's hoping the rest of the clutch goes to term for you nicely! It sounds quite promising, sometimes certain eggs aren't meant to be, so keep your chin up!

First off, so sorry for your loss, especially this close to hatching time.

Second, could you add this to the birth defect thread? I feel like it's a good educational thread (though difficult to view) for preparing new breeders for what can go wrong.
