what size mouse
Hi guys. Another thread here got me curious about the size food I am feeding my snakes. I feed my roughly 170g balls adult mice. My 130-140g balls get hoppers. Does that sound about right? Adult mice would be easiest for me to do across the board but I think the smaller snakes are just too small for adult mice at the moment. I forget if I tried adults yet but I'm pretty sure I did and they didn't take them. Either way, do you think they should be on adults too? Thanks.

Are mice the only choice? Nutritionally, rats are better for your snakes and are usually just as easy to obtain. I feed my snakes prey that matches the widest part of their body.
Ball pythons: 1.0 Pied, 0.1 Normal het Pied, 1.0 Spider, 0.1 Russo het Luc
Domestic cats: 0.1 Misty, 0.1 Tootsie, 0.1 Oreo
Hooded Striped rats: 1.0 General Tso, 1.0 Moo Goo, 0.1 Lo, 0.1 Chow
Dalmation Dumbo rats: 0.1 Sesame

I could probably get baby/small rats but for as many as I'm buying I'm not sure at the moment how well my local store can supply them. And I'm not a big fan of frozen yet. I would sooner get live and euthanize them myself if needed or just feed live if they need it. That said hoppers are about the same size around as my smaller snakes. I was hoping that someone else out there had a ball the same size to compare feeders with.

My hatchlings start on hoppers and move to adults within 3-5 feedings-they might get 3. Then they get rat pups, usually frozen. so by the time they're about 120 grams or so they're on pups.
I have a bee that i hatched 9/14 and hes close to 400 grams pounding small rats.
I know what you mean by your local store not being able to supply-i have to drive 45 mins every weekend to get what I need. sucks...
How many snakes do you have?

I have a russo and a spider about that size, maybe 190g tops. They eat two adult mice per meal when I don't have any rats available. For the smaller snakes I would keep them on hoppers a little longer, maybe a month, then graduate to adult mice.
