Substrate stuck

Hi guys,

I've just fed my Royal and I've noticed that she's got a bit of wood in her mouth,shall I do anything or just leave her,would she just spit it out ?? Help !!

I leave my guys alone when they've gotten some aspen stuck in their mouths. They always were able to remove it themselves if it was stuck on the side of their mouths and they've passed some aspen fine before when ingested. I'd monitor her for a bit and see if she figures it out herself.

Thanks dude,just checked her and it's gone,don't know if she swallowed it or not.. Now my question is for my other Royal,I could see some bits of wood when he was eating it so I took some off but I know for sure that there was still a bit left and I think he's swallowed it,will he be ok ? I think next time I will feed them out of their viv.. Thanks again

Can you tell if it's just stuck in her mouth or if it's stuck on her teeth?

It happens to mine sometimes. If I'm able to remove it with the tongs while it's protruding then I will. If not then I just let them deal with it naturally. You have to understand that in the wild they swallow things as well.

I used to keep my hatchlings on shaved aspen, and one time after feeding one exhibited signs of a severe RI (open mouth breathing, bubbles in mouth, wheezing) which was strange because the day before feeding I had inspected him and there were no abnormal signs at all. When I looked in his mouth to see the severity of the RI, I saw a piece of aspen stuck to a back tooth. After the painstaking process of freeing the stuck piece, the wheezing, bubbles, and open mouth breathing disappeared within hours.

Point being, if the substrate is just in its mouth, and there aren't any signs of it being a problem (other than it being there) it will probably resolve the issue on its own.
