Little Accident: Non-Emergency, but is there anything I can do?

So during the two hours of sleep I got last night, Nessie got herself tangled in one of her new vines. It was entirely my fault, I should have considered the type of vine I was putting in, but at the time I just thought of it as new decoration and added it. The way these vines are made is basically like a chain, with four leaves coming off each segment. When I woke up, she'd found her was through one of the segments and couldn't back out of it, although the way her tank looked, she had been trying-- hide flipped over, dinosaur skull tipped.

I carefully lifted her out and snipped it off with a small pair of scissors. It hadn't gone all the way down her abdomen, but it was pretty tight against her neck, and this morning when I checked on her, I found some minor swelling around where the segment had lain against her neck.

My question is, is there anything I can do to ease the swelling? A warm soak or anything? She's none the worse for wear otherwise, responds well to gentle handling and no pain response when I touch the injured area, But of course I will keep an eye on it in case it does get worse. Any suggestions?

Thanks Pit. I think she'll be fine, the only thing I'm worried about is the swelling constricting her airway. I'm gonna keep the humidity a bit lower to make it easy for her to breathe and keep the risk of an RI down. She refused food this week, so I was gonna wait til next week for feeding anyway, hopefully it'll look ok by then.

Normally you would use ice or cold to reduce swelling, but obviously that won't work for a reptile. Then my little runt got her neck caught on the tub edge there was some swelling as well, the vet said there's nothing they can do about it (unless it's the emergency, airway-opening kind of intervention). It took a few days to go down and there was some bruising that appeared around 12-14 hours later (so don't be shocked if you see some of that appearing on your girl in a few hours) which took a bit longer to clear, but as long as her airway hasn't been compromised she should be ok. Personally I would give her a week or two off food until it heals up, as her neck is probably quite tender.

Just an update, she came through like a charm, you wouldn't have even noticed by the end of 24 hours

I have seen people use that type of vine a few times here and I have always told them it could be hazardous and to remove it. Now I have a place to send them to show I'm not paranoid.

Yes, I absolutely got lucky, and Nessie even more so that I only slept 2 hours before waking and checking on her. I will not ever recommend that style of plant again, it does have a nice full look to it, but there is too much to go wrong ultimately. All the pieces I had are in the trash.

BPs are tough,I'm sure she will be tough it out and be fine,just keep an eye on her and leave her be. Good luck man
