Lol, I caught my own bias surfacing as I read this, thinking how neither one can clear a fence over 18" with decent form.

    *cough* Appendix QH *cough cough*

But no I may not care for certain horse breeds but I'm not so cynical to think they don't have use or be happy over the loss of them. That's just wrong. As animal lovers it just doesn't make sense to hate on other species of snakes. I now have my first boa and yes she is very different than the ball pythons. I find her pretty interesting, but the whole reason I got a ball python to begin with was their looks and I wanted one to chill with me while I'm on the computer. Have yet to get one that will just sit still that long though. I plan on getting a retic one day and breeding boas on a small scale (compared to my BP breeding plans). I think it's very snobby and anti herp community to look down on others or another species because they're popular. If anything people with more "advanced" snakes should be happy that balls draw people to the hobby. I wouldn't of gotten into reptiles if I didn't get a ball python. Now I have plans for more boas, getting some dart frogs, a chameleon, etc.

Like someone already pointed out, there's always THAT group of people in any hobby that think their snake, car, or gun is superior to everyone else's (BPs aren't my only expensive hobby )

Personally, I love my picky eater rocks. I want to get a Maine Coon someday (a really big cat) and I don't want it to be dinner for my snake.

Anyway, if I ever decide to get something bigger, I'll get a pony.

This is maddening and terrible! I too had no idea people look down on ball pythons especially because they are popular. They sound like weird hipsters. I hate spiders including tarantulas but I would never be OK with someone mistreating them. I also am glad ball pythons are popular because they are easy to care for. In the pet trade so many people buy cute baby iguanas who can't properly care for such a large lizard. They don't even do their research. Imagine if pet stores sold baby retics and burms!

I should prob mention it is fine to kill spiders but my rules with killing any animal are make it quick and clean. This doesn't look like that to me

I think part of this is that your 'average' person who goes into a pet store and buys a ball python has no idea about proper husbandry. This results in URIs and refusals to eat. As a vet tech who used to work at a practice that dealt with exotics I used to say that if you looked at a ball python funny it would stop eating for 6 months just to spite you. And that was also the sort of thing I heard when I first considered getting into snakes and was pondering between ball pythons, corn snakes, and king snakes.

I ended up with corn snakes instead because they're thinner... and they will usually eat F/T and any time you offer.
