If the adult ball python feels insecure (which may cause the snake to refuse meals) then a hide may be a good way to start. I like to give small hatchlings a hide, and then remove it when they outgrow it.
I meant if the rack has three solid sides. If it does it makes them feel secure just being in the rack. I have one rack that is just a frame and selves so the sides are open and it does not provide any feeling of security. I use hides, crumpled paper, or deep cypress mulch to make them feel secure in it.

My 11+ year old guy weighs 1900-2100 grams, lives in an RBI enclosed 3-tier rack, and eats best (consistently) with hides in his tub. Have experimented over the years with/without hides, with/without stuff to hide behind... dunno... the boy just likes his hides. As long as he seems calm and eats regularly, I figure he can have all the hides he wants.
But that's my guy. Whatever works best for you and your snake's well-being. Good luck!
