    Thermostats and Ceramic Heat Emitters

I am running a 20 gallon long tank with both a UTH on thermostat and a 100W Ceramic heat emitter and 8.5" fixture. Where should I be putting the thermostat probe for the CHE? Bot are on the hot side to provide a basking spot, an 85 degree subtrate location under his hot-side hide and to increase the general ambient temps. My question is... How can I place the thermostat probe for the CHE to best control temps? Right now I have it hanging about 6 inches below the CHE. I have it just sitting on top of the wire cover andf the probe is just dangling freely about 6 inches below the CHE. I have currently BOTH thermostats set to 85 degrees. The cool side ambient air temp is about 77-78 degrees,

Hi, you don't need to have a thermostat for the CHE. Instead I'd recommend a dimmer and a zoomed infrared thermometer to check the temperature of the CHE. I'd bump up the UTH to about 90 degrees because depending on the amount of substrate you have in the cage, the heat isn't going through to your snake. Most people recommend 1/2 to an inch of substrate at most.

Here, check out the link below of how to setup a 20 gallon glass tank. Hopefully this will make things clear.
