I'm having a problem where for the last few days or so, threads that I haven't read yet are being marked as read sometimes, so I don't realize new posts have been made. It happened to me this evening with the thread I made under Rhacodactylus, where there were 4 replies but the section didn't show any unread threads and I only knew there were replies because I was sending the link to Chris. Is this stuff happening to anyone else?

that feature has never worked quite right for me, Marla. sometimes it will say that i have all these posts to read, when I know for a fact i actually don't... and i even recall one time i left for 3 whole days, came home and the site claimed there were no new posts. odd, eh?

That is odd. It had been working great for me since the problem with constantly getting logged out went away, but it now it's messed up sporadically. Weird.

Sometimes if you open the board in one window it'll show all the forums with new stuff as unseen. But if you open the board in a different window it marks them as read. So long as you stay within a single window...
Happens to me all the time, must be a cookie based thing.

The only time I ever open a second window is to search threads or find a photo gallery link, and I open them directly by right-clicking the link and selecting 'Open in new window' (as opposed to opening a forum window and going from there), so that is definitely not the cause of my issue. I suppose it could theoretically be a cookie issue, though.

I've had that problem for ....well...ever since I started coming here. I've found that it's related to two things, primarily. Having the forum open in two different windows can screw it up...although if I'm careful, I can get away with it. The other thing that causes it most often for me, is my DSL connection. It "burps"...or drops the connection for anywhere from 10-60 seconds. If it does that, then all the "unread" forums/posts show as read...as if I'm starting from scratch. And occassionally it will get goofy and I have no reason why. I've started paying more attention to the date/time-stamps to find threads I haven't read.

Odd, because I'm on stable, "always-on" connections both here and at work and if they go down, they go seriously down, not for a matter of seconds or milliseconds. I guess it will just have to remain one of life's mysteries.
