    They look locked to me! There is no reason why they CAN NOT lock during anytime; mating CAN occur at anytime BUT usually does not due to behavioral patterns associated with hormone release from the female. Same way warm furry wiggly objects prompt a strike. With snakes it is all reaction to an action, they do not think like we do. Their brains are VERY simple and only have 2 components. There is no frontal lobe. Perhaps this girl is just special
