    Question about 10 gallon tank

Would a ten gallon tank be sufficient for a male and one or two females? Thanks.

A ten gallon is barely big enough for 1 adult rat. I'd use at least a 20 long.

Re: Question about 10 gallon tank

What about buying a plastic tub and using hardware cloth in a cutout in the lid? What size of tub would you recommend? Also, what ratio would you suggest? Thanks.

I did that (a bin cage) with three pet rats I bought recently. The concept works great, but mine was just big enough for three small males (all juveniles) and seemed a little cramped for them. With planning on keeping three adults I'd say get the largest bin you can find (I don't remember how big mine was, but I'll try to find a label tonight and repost with pics).

On the plus side, the galvanized hardware cloth worked great and I think they got plenty of ventilation. But be warned, that hardware cloth will cut you up if you're not careful.

I have a 105qt following the metal monkey directions for making it. I have three females and a male in there and all seem comfy. I'm sure it's going to get crowded with babies. I have another tub awaiting more rats so I can divide them up.
