What do you mean by "try to tame it"? Like get it used to handling? Because it doesn't sound like it...
I would caution you to not pop it if it is a juvie. You may be causing it pain, which is why it is 'freaking out'. Adults and sub-adults should be probed. I strongly suggest you go to an experienced corn breeder or handler, or vet, if you'd like to know the sex.
