    Ball Pythons don't generally swim or soak on their own, unless it's really dry or hot. So don't be concerned about him not using the water dish (except for drinking), and also don't expect him to know it helps a bad shed! If you really need to get him "moistened up," try an hour in a sterilite tub with a damp towel inside... you can also add a bit of water, maybe 1/4-1/2 inch, which will be fine since he has the towel for traction. Another thing, if you put the water dish RIGHT on top of the heat tape/pad, that will raise humidity in the tub pretty well. If none of these things work, chances are the extra skin will come off in his next shed.
