Re: Failed Shed??
Mine don't do full pieces. I keep humidity high at shedding time and I still get piece mealed on the shed. As long as all of it comes off I call it a successful shed. Give him a day or 2 before you soak or use the wet towel. His skin is very sensitive right after shedding. If he doesn't get those leftovers off then try the towel first.

Don't get too discouraged, just make sure your humidity is up come shed time. Even if you do have the humidity perfect and all the conditions are correct I have noticed some of my snakes just have bad sheds. I have a pastel female that since she was a baby she has never had a "perfect shed".
What I do for my smaller snakes when they have bad sheds is get a bowl ( I buy these clear thin plastic containers with holes in the side that are about 8 inches in diameter, I put about an inch or so of water in it with a wash cloth. I put the snake in the container and put the lid on it. I then put that container back in to its enclosure on the warm side and I let them sit for an hour or so while checking on the snake about every 10 minutes or so.
If you own a ball python at some time or another you will have bad sheds it seems, nothing to get too bummed about.

Thank you! I felt a little discouraged because I was having so much trouble keeping the humidity up. I managed to get it up to 80% by checking it every hour. But at night while I was asleep, it would drop to 45%. Hopefully by his next shed I'll have him in a T8 & my humidity won't be such a hassle.

Haha definitely don't feel discouraged I have one that will sometimes shed and it will be like a million little shredding bits, and I'm like what in the world happened?!? The humidity is always perfect so what's going on lol. But I found out that if you mist your snake the day they clear up and are actually about to shed the skin it slides right off like a glove! I started getting perfect sheds when I do this with no rips or tears just one big long piece it's so awesome! So try it out some day for yourself some of them are just crazy shedders so don't worry about it too much.
