This is what I mean. Some people think because they bred and hatched the animal its worth its weight in gold. I've seen some that over 300 for a tiny baby, almost what you would say a runt.

And if that runt had the right genes and gender I would consider it a bargain, even if it was a mean little monster.

Even the store owner for Reptile World is breeding/selling them. They've given him good clutches as far as I know.

No, it doesn't. people make that mistake all the time. Heterozygous means that the alleles that make up the gene are different from each other. Hetero means 'different'. Homozygous means that the alleles that make up the gene are the same as each other. Homo means 'the same' And that's all it means. It has no bearing on whether or not a trait is recessive or dominant or co-dominant. A snake that carries a recessive trait carries the trait without displaying it.

Heterozygous also means its carrying one copy of a certain gene where as homozygous has two.

Pastel is het super pastel.
It carries one copy of the pastel gene and one normal. Super pastel has 2 pastel genes.

Het albino has one copy of the albino gene and one normal. Visual albino has 2 albino genes.

I have just read through this and thought "He he he; you think your prices are high?!"

I'm in the UK: (all prices converted to dollars to help you guys ) most of these are breeders prices so miles cheaper than the rep stores!
My pastel was $285
Lesser was $360
Mojave was only $131 as I got him in a deal with the lesser; should have been $196
My het albino boy was $115
My bee, albino and het gs cost $575 I got them together. My albino by herself should have cost this!
Finally my spider was $164

It's interesting what a difference time makes too. My Pastel was $700.00 ( a DEAL at the time), my lesser was around $1500.00 as was a female pinstripe that I got at the same time. (3 G's cash and trade) I spent a little over $1000.00 for a het albino male and 4-50% possible het females, about $400.00 on a mojave but only about $250.00 on a spider.

Hey Mark, what year were those prices that you purchased the animals? Always curious to learn that info since I just started 18 months or so ago.

I'm not really sure of the exact years, some were 10 years ago, some were only a couple. I do remember that I bought the pastel from Morph King Reptiles when they FIRST started up their business. I think I was one of their earliest customers. They've now been out of business for many years, dropping out amidst a flurry of controversy over market crashing prices.

A friend of mine bought a pair of het albinos a couple years ago for $500 and a pastel male for $200 the same year. This was about 3 yrs ago and my jaw dropped. I thought the normal girl my husband got me was expensive at $50. My yellow belly male I bought beginning of Dec was only $40 and he's a yearling. I am looking at those cinnamons and they are very pretty. I would love to pick up a female. Might wait for spring when there are some more females on the market. There are a ton of males but not as many females because people are holding on to them. I would like to get into the breeding but want to go slow with single gene beauties instead of plopping down a grand or two for a multi gene beauty. I really want a pied girl lol.
