Paul Walker dead?

I think what makes philanthropist, celebrities and whatnot different than average Joes when they pass away is because they leave behind a legacy, much like Paul Walker did. You see, they contributed to society, something most modern people seem to not care about doing, and if they gain recognition, it's because they earned it, whether it's good or bad. And when good people leave society better than when they arrived, they deserve to commemorated for it. Should you stop your entire damn life to dwell on his now permanent absence in society? No, but you should at least be glad he devoted some of his life for making this society a better place. Unlike most of the population, he seemed to actually care about other's well being.

I'm not scoffing, yeah boohoo he's dead. But, why linger more than a moment? Did you actually know him? Did he spend Christmas with you every year? I guess I'm just weird in that, if I didn't know someone and they died then it doesn't really affect me.

My goodness, really??? You have to know the guy to mourn his passing???

I am Filipino. My cousin and her daughter died in Tacloban in that super typhoon Yolanda. Do you know what I'm talking about? Yes, Paul Walker did A LOT of fund raising for the Filipino victims of the typhoon. But yes, I feel terrible for him passing not only because he's done these charity projects. I feel terrible for him passing more because I really enjoyed all the Fast and Furious movies (I love cars!) and he has a big part in those. I would feel the same for Keanu Reeves - bad actor that he is - because I bought my Cadillac CTS because of his Matrix movie. I felt the same for Heath Ledger because, man! He was INCREDIBLE in Batman!

Celebrities are not JUST Celebrities. Yes, Lindsey Lohan and Brittney Spears are JUST celebrities for me because I don't like their work. But many of my cousins and nieces have them as a part of their memories growing up. My celebrities are Rush and Duran-duran. I have posters of John Taylor lining my walls as a teen-ager and me and my friends used to rock to those songs so everytime those songs come up it brings a lot of memories. Same with Fast and Furious - I have a friend who worked for Lamborghini and we watched the very first Fast and Furious together... over and over. Those were great times! I cried when Christopher Reeves died. He was a part of my growing up as Superman. My friends and I used to watch that movie over and over. I marked his height (6'4") on my wall because I just can't believe how tall he is (Filipino men average 5'7 and very rarely make it to 6 feet) so everytime I walk by the door, I would match my height with his and gauge if I've grown taller or not (I stopped growing at 5 feet ZERO).

So yeah, it might not mean anything to you like Lindsey Lohan doesn't mean anything to me. But if Lohan passes, I won't scoff at her death because there are others who grew up with her in their lives even if they didn't really know her.

But, just because I mourn these celebrities passing doesn't mean that I don't mourn for any of our soldiers passing. My grandfather died defending the Philippines in WWII, so I am sensitive to military deaths. It also doesn't mean I don't mourn anybody else's passing - unknown that they are. Life is precious, including those who have not personally touched our lives in any way at all.

But, I'm not going to start a thread on people passing that you might not know. You know Paul Walker (or a lot of you do) so it gets a thread on bp.net.

I watched many other movies with him. When you grow up seeing these people all the time they become part of your life.
I love the entire Fast & the Furious franchise and he will be deeply missed. He did a lot besides the movies that no one knows about or tosses to the side....

Oh yes, Steve Irwin. My kids grew up on Bindi the Jungle Girl. But Steve is a celebrity because of all the work he does for wildlife. A little different than Corey Haim for a lot of people because even if they don't know Irwin, the can relate to his legacy, know what I mean?

Same here!! I looooove The Crow. Everything about it. It was my absolute fave movie in high school, and I think me and my bf at the time saw it three times in the movie theatre. Heath was a terrible loss also. Lost Boys is and always will be a classic for me. Never tire of watching that. Gotta admit, I still kinda like Corey Feldman too
