Temp guns don't work on water. You might be getting wrong readings or if you are lucky the temp gun is measuring the surface temp of the water dish itself. You really don't need to worry about the water temp as long as it isn't too hot. If it is on the cooler side and the snake gets in it (which in most cases with BP's will be rare) the snake can always warm back up on the hot side of the cage.
