It's been about 13 days now by my count and I'm a little perplexed by one of these eggs!

5 of them are still doing great, still firm, leathery, etc.. One on top is a little sunk in but still candles red, veins look healthy, etc.. but one on the bottom is a bit more....for lack of a better term, "wet" looking all over the egg rather than just a "window" and is very soft compared to the others. it still seems (key word there) to candle redish and appears to have healthy veins but the shell just concerns me.

For you EXPERIENCED breeders, is this a sign of an egg on it's way out?

A picture and a brief overview of your incubation temps/humidity would be helpful. By the denting you're describing, it sounds like they aren't humid enough. However, the "Wet spot" is not a good sign and means it's too wet. Are the eggs sitting directly on the substrate or on an light grate?

Give us some pictures and details and we'll see if we can't help you out.

My incubator temp is at about 89/90, humidity was high yesterday morning but is now at about 80-82% the eggs are IN the substrate and it is still clumping but not dripping and falls apart easily. no water drips when I squeeze the clump.

3 of the 4 eggs IN the substrate are doing well, there's no excess condensation on the lid of the egg box and the window on the top egg has stayed a consistent size/color the entire incubation process so i'm not super concerned about it above the sunken look but again it still candles like it's healthy.

Below I have modified a picture of yours and color coded it so we can talk about the different areas. Now, remember, this is just my opinion and it's only meant to be educational. Others feel free to chime in.



The RED circle: This egg is WAY too wet. In fact, this egg will probably start to grow mold. I had several eggs that looked like this just before they died. If you see mold, try to put some anti-fungal powder on there and hope for the best. If it starts to smell or feel FIRM, throw it out. By firm I mean like a soft boiled egg. The yolk will start to harden and it will be a definite firm, immovable touch to it.

The BLUE circle: This egg is looking a little too damp as well, but not as bad as the egg above.

The GREEN circle: This is probably not an accurate measure of your humidity. Those analog gauges aren't usually very accurate. I would suggest you get a digital one that has a probe on it. if I had to guess, the substrate is too wet but the eggs are too dry based on the dimpling from the top egg. You can try to put a layer of press-n-seal on top to trap in the humidity.

The ORANGE shading: Because your eggs look a little too wet, I would get them up off the substrate (that may mean you need to change containers) and put them on a light grate. You can buy it at Home Depot. it comes in a large sheet and you'll just have to cut it down to fit your tub.

Hopefully that helped a little bit and hopefully you can save several of those eggs.

Thank you for this! I'll go find a digital one today as well as a light grate.

The odd thing is that only those eggs are seeming wet but the top egg looking wet is a mystery because the top of the egg box has stayed almost completely dry.
