Corn snake needs help

Someone has contacted me adout getting help for a corn snake. The can't afford/find a good herp vet so they are seeking help. This snake has had trouble shedding and seems to be forming a rather bad bruise on its tail. The owners would like to keep their snake and sound like they know what they're doing but the don't know how to help their snakes tail or even if they'd be able to if they did know. They are willing to give up the snake if they need to though. If any of you live in Washington and could help they would be very greatful. Poor shedding is typically the result of low humidity. This bruise you speak of, do you have pics? Is it on the tip of the tail? Can you describe how they are housing the snake?

The poor sheds were with the old owner. I do not have pictures as of yet, but it is on the tip of the tail. I am waiting for more detail into their housekeeping as well as pictures.

Just a forewarning-She does have a legitimate reason why she can't pay the bill. So no one say how she shouldn't have the snake if she can't pay the bill.

Agreed it sounds like too low of humidity. I would either mist the tank or give the snake a humid hide (filled with Sphagnum moss) when it goes in shed. The hide can be as simple as a ziplock container with a hole for the snake to go in and out (just make sure the container is big enough and the hole has no sharp edges). Sadly it sounds like the tail might be dying (pictures would help). The only thing I can think of to do is help the snake shed easier and hope the tail gets better.

Yeah, the tail sounds like it has build up of previous sheds which leads to necrosis on the tail. This is caused by improper shedding and vigilance to help get the shed off the tail. After enough sheds, the necrotic portion of the tail will fall off from constriction. Not sure of the standard practice for how this is dealt with but I had a snake with it and it was far enough along to help pull off and dip it into a betadine solution to help reduce the chance of infection.
