I was wondering how you guys felt about handling time for your snakes. Do you think there is a best time of day for them to be handled?

Well with Bp's if i had to pick a time i'd say night time cause thats when they're most active. For your blood i'd say the same time. About 20mins is how long i have mine out unless i don't mind them drapped accross my neck in which i keep them out as long as they're good.

Typically I go with late evening so that I'm not going to stress them too much by interrupting their sleepytime.

hydra will stay out with me usually an hour or two until i can tell she wants to be left alone. Even then she still doesnt' like going back in her home. And it is usually at night time. I know when to take her out because during the day she is in her hide with only a coil showing. When she is about to get active she will stick her head out of her hide and raise it slightly and flick her tongue. Thats when i know shes ready

Paul, I'm sure it's not a big deal what time you take him out. If you have an option, of course, you can try to aim for a time when the snake would be awake and active anyhow...but if you don't have that particular time-slot available, I've never read anything anywhere that says gentle, consistent handling of your snake is bad for them if done during the day. If I tried to wait for Caesar to be "up" from always sleeping...I'd never get him out. I figure if he gets to sleep the other 23 hours a day, then it won't hurt him to be up with me whichever hour I choose. LOL

Paul, I'd either go for the 1 AM to sunrise time period or manipulate the light that your snakes are exposed to so that their schedule gradually matches yours.

I typically take Ozzy out around 9-1am and handle for a min of 10 mins sometimes up to 30min.
If I waited for him to be up I would only handle him about once or twice a week so I just lift up his hide and lift him out.
He is so use to the routine now he doesn't even bother to ball or curl up at all ( Yeah!).
I typically handle about 15-20 on feed night then I don't handle again for about 72 hrs. because he really becomes a lazy bum and sleeps in his warm hide for at least 24 hrs after eating.
Also I never pull him out of his warm hide ( just my own deal)

How is your blood to handle??? nice or evil?

So far so good although unlike Plissken, he turns his head to watch EVERYTHING I do when Im sticking my hand in to touch/pick him up.However after reading this from Alex Hue

I remebered the first time one of my 8 foot Boas bit me after never ever even attempting too strike since I raised her from birth....very unpleasant experience.
I realise it just comes with the territory, but its worth it now I can feel like Im steve Irwin Krikey!
