Questions about my snake hide..

I've always wondered, on the warm side of the tank is inside the hide warmer or cooler than the surroundings, I don't have a fancy thermo gun so I wouldn't know. And is it more humid o less humid? Because I only occasionally lift the hide and mist, usually I just leave the hide in and mist the top so does the water molecules get in there or is it extremely dry?

I cant imagine either the temp or humidity being too different, but maybe someone else should chime in?...hahah and as for a temp gun its a good investment, I got mine off amazon for $15 and it works great

When my bp's are in shed I will mist around and underneath their hides. when I do look in the hide a day later or so there is condensation on the top of the hide. so yes it holds water well, also when I move a hide at times I can feel a rush of warmer air lifting from underneath. so in my belief yes, humidity is higher, and heat dosent get hotter but it holds a pocket of warmer air.

In my experience the warm side hides maintain a higher air temperature than the rest of the enclosure. I've kept ball pythons in both tanks and a rack system and in both cases this was true. Humidity is commonly increased with hides, though that depends on what the hide is made of. Wood will absorb water and slowly release it when heated, plastic will trap it.

The rack I have at the moment uses sterilite shoeboxes with holes out of the sides as hides when needed. I live in a low humidity area, so when a snake is shedding out I'll put some damp paper towels in one of the shoeboxes and put it in there. I've regularly tracked higher temperatures in them than the surrounding tub when they sit right on the heat tape.
