    Where to place temp prob

I am currently getting the night and day lights set up for Loki's tank (don't worry he isn't in it!). I have the temp prob like this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-I...ndingMethod=rr

Do I need to place the hot side prob inside of the hot side hide or should I place it outside the hide on in the substrate?

    Thanks!

If your using a uth its best to be placed over the uth on the inside of the cage, under the substrate. If your using a heat lamp or che it may be best to place it where it can register the heat, so that may be on top of the hide or substrate. Basically place it where you need it and want it.

I think it depends on the heat source you are using, I use RHPs so mine are laid out on top of the substrate, if you are using a UTH then it would probably be best to have it near the heat source, under the substrate

The UTH does not go in the tank,do not listen to KMG... I put my UTH on the hot side of my tank,I tape ( using aluminum tape) the probe dead center to the pad,not in between the glass and pad but out side of pad that is on the outside of the tank..then I run my thermometer probe inside the tank and tape it to the glass which is under the aspen substrate ,lol, dead center of the heat pad and place my hide accordingly over the pad so center of my hide is center of the pad... Connect it to my hydrofarm thermostat and set for around 89-91 degrees. Works great for me.

Re: Where to place temp prob

Thermometer probe goes on the hottest place inside the enclosure to read the hot side.

KMG said nothing about the UTH going inside the enclosure. Just the thermometer probe.

    Thanks satomi325.

I was answering the question directly and referring to the probe as asked.

BTW, the tstat probe should be between the uth and the bottom of the cage. Pit on the Prowl already told you that too in the other thread where you got snappy.

Hmm, I feel like we have been here before...Anyone else getting a sense of de ja vu!

UTH setup: UTH, UTH probe, enclosure, (in that order) thermometer probe inside enclosure on hot side...If you want one on the cold side also, feel free. Buy another thermometer and throw it on in there!

CERAMIC (any rhp): Heat is above, my thermostat probe is inside the tank on top of the substrate (this is a viv set up the probe is secure, my others are tubs) I also have thermometer probes etc. I throw them on in there too! This is how vivarium set ups are done here by the rep shops, I took their word that this was correct

This is how I do it. I'm not saying I'm right!

I do it completely different, but I won't say to avoid people arguing. What works for you works for you and isn't always the best solution for somebody else.

I will say however, that on my rack system with the heat tape I have the probe taped to the heat tape and I adjust it accordingly to all my tubs hotspot are about the same.
