Penelope (Penny) is just a name we came up with, that sounded feminine and won out over my 5yr old daughter's vote of Cinderella lol. Penny was chosen first (because of her copper colour), but we decided to use the long version. I like nice feminine names for female snakes, because it helps people not think they are so gross...or so that's my theory

Mara is a name I chose and is actually the name of a snake alien creature from Doctor Who. My husband is a total nerd, so I named her thinking of him, but Mara is also an Irish name, and I have Irish heritage (hence my name and spelling), so it has double meaning for me, plus it sounds nice to me.

I want to get a Butter next and I think my daughter is convinced we will name her Buttercup. I might be fine with that, but I may be able to convince her of another name if we get a Lesser instead.
