    Power feeding...

What's your definition of it? Who/has anyone done it ? How long do you usually do it for?

There are a bunch of posts on here about that if you search. You will find that the opinions on it vary as to what defines "power feeding".

Just copied my opinion from your "power feeling" thread.

An example of power feeding is daisy chaining feeders one after another. This tricks the snake into thinking it's eating one feeder when it is in fact eating multiple.

If a snake eats a few feeders on it's own, I don't really consider that power feeding. If it eats, it eats. If they don't want to eat, they won't bother with the rodent.

    Re: Power feeding...

    I too copied and pasted...

Lol, power feeding is basically forced bulking on the snake. My female Retics get a touch more than what is recommended but it is never excessive and if they did not want the extra then they would not eat it. NEVER power feed arboreals like Morelia viridis or Corallus caninus, it is a major detriment to health, scrub pythons also do better with a bit less despite their voracious appetites...my adult female eats monthly. Terrestial and semi-arboreal python species like retics, balls, carpets, etc... are generally fine with a little extra and will grow to breeding age faster, obviously; however, continuous chain feeding is definitely not going to end well.

    Hmmmm

Power feeding? Isn't it bad to do something like that? I was told that over feeding your snake can not only cause it to get fat, but doing so too often can make it grow faster, but growing faster results in health problems with your snake. I saw a video on youtube where this guy was power feeding his Albino Ball Python chicken necks, is that even healthy for the python? O_o

Yes, true power feeding produces major health problems down the road; however, at the same time, it is possible for keepers to feed a bit extra and come out with a healthy animal, the only difference is the specimen grew a lot faster. Of course there are also some species were less is more food wise and trying to induce rapid growth causes more harm than good (i.e. Scrubs, Chondros, ETBs, Diamonds, etc...). Power feeding is force feeding extra prey usually via a chain system, whereas keepers trying to induce growth simply allow their snakes to eat extra if they want it.
