hey quick qestion
hey guys and girls its been a long time since i been on .. i have missed u all tho .. anyways i know breeding season has started for some and is coming for others .. and i will be breeding this year just only one clutch since it is my 1st year ever breeding 1 clutch will be fine for me .. anyways i was wondering if i can get by with this instead of a incubator if i just ran some heat tape or heat pads under or around a shoe box will that work? i was gonna buy a incubator since my clutch size will be small for the next couple of years but i figured maybe this will work n i can save some money.. i also was thinking of just letting my female keep them with her but ive heard that they will hardly take food thru the whole process and i need her ready for next year so i dont wanna chance it even tho she shouldnt drop that much weight shes at gotta be 1700-1800 g right now .. any advice would be helpful thanks in advance

Not a shoebox, but you can build one with a cheap styrofoam cooler. I would look up how to do it, and you'll still need a thermostat.

It wouldn't work out that well if you just had heat tape and the shoe box tub.
It wouldn't heat the eggs evenly and might not even heat the eggs at all. I really doubt it'll be able to penetrate through the substrate medium without it exceeding a dangerous temperature. And at that point, it'll be more prone to error and malfunction.
If you have a cooler lying around, you can use that to insulate everything.
Secure the heat tape to the side wall in the cooler. Set water bottles on their side on the bottom of the cooler.
Lay down a light grate/diffuser over the water bottles to create a solid surface to lay your egg tub.
Connect your heat tape to your thermostat.
Depending on how large the cooler is, you may want to put in a small computer fan to circulate the eggs.
Check out the DIY Subforum here. They have DIY Stickies on how to build your own incubator. (1 from a fridge and 1 from a cooler)
