    Some albino questions

Every time I go on ks, I find myself looking for albino hoggies, I think it might be time to bite the bullet and just get one. I'm a bit confused about the whole red/extreme red/orange thing though. I have the impression somehow that the "red" albinos hold their colors better into adulthood, but that these are all basically gradiations of the same (compatible) albino gene? Is that correct?

That's what I've gathered. Basically line bred albinos. I read a really good explanation on the genetics, gimme a bit and I'll try to find it for you.

Thanks, I've dropped enough hints about how cute they are that I think I'm *this close* to getting the hubby to suggest getting one as if it were his own idea lol. Last night he was asking me about hoggie husbandry requirements

Do it!!! They're beyond easy to care for. And take up so little room to boot! I could not for the life of me find the article I had read. Sorry :/

Extreme Red and Purple Albino will be the ones with the most contrast that will retain their color very well, so do orange

This is an adult female (2 yo - 300 grams) her contrast is still the same as the day I bought her

The more yellow and the less contrast = dull adult

If you want a nice albino get an extreme red or purple line or pick the orangest baby you see.

Not all albinos are created equal

It's fate! Was chatting with the owner of my local reptile store, and he picked up the cutest little orange girl at a show this weekend. He's going to feed her tomorrow and once she eats she's coming home with me!!!

ETA: I held her for about 15 minutes, and she just chilled on my hand, seemed curious but relaxed, and she's about the size of a pencil. I'll get a weight on her tomorrow.

Thanks, I'm super excited right now, I keep squealing! My first ever snake was an albino hoggie about 20 years ago that my mom kept as a class pet that I looked after. Of course I realize now that he must have been a WC oddity because albinos weren't exactly common back then (she said she bought him at the local pet store and paid $100 for him and the set up ) and I wish she'd kept him! But ever since Mr.Wiggles I've wanted another one and I'm so excited it's finally happening.
