Cool little black back guy. Also, you can feed in his enclosure...won't harm anything, won't make him aggressive, and it's less stressful on the snake.
Lucifer Sam, Siam cat...
Always sitting by your side,
Always by your side...
That cat's something I can't explain...

Re: Dinner Time Shots (Misleading Title)
Thanks, I guess I just fell into the myth. Which reminds me, what do you do if the lil guy takes a bite? What's the best way to get him off without hurting him?

I've never had one latch on...they usually hit before I even know what happened...

If you do get a snake that latches on you, you can run them under cool water until the let go.

Believe it or not mouth wash works well. Never had to use it on BPs, only my old.kings and boas. Though im sure it would work on BPs should they latch on and not let go. Just pour about a cap full on their heat pits/mouth area slowly. Usually let go quickly...

Got it, thanks!! Yeah I'm not too worried about him biting. He's not aggressive at all, just super skiddish haha.
Ironically, right after asking about being bitten by a snake I got a brutal spider bite today.. Those bastards just bite recklessly.

Very cute.
As for biting, feeding in a different enclosure opens you up to way more bites. They are very bite during and after feeding time. It's something that I have always thought was funny about the "feeding in a different enclosure" myth. The whole point is to avoid 'aggression' which is really just to avoid getting bit, yet moving them after feeding is for sure going to get you bit some day. They are on edge, smell rodents, and you are a big warm easy target! I've never had a BP latch on to me, they usually tap you, or bite real quick and let go right away.

If it's any consolation, I rolled over on a scorpion in my sleep and it really nailed me. It's been 4 days and it still really hurts. I've been keeping inverts for years and never been tagged. So of course a "wild" scorp gets me, not the grumpy ones I keep!
I have been bit by a few snakes. It's not that bad.

Water works for dislodging a snake, ive also heard hydrogen peroxide works too. Personally, I think I'd only ever try water-- its natural for them to get a faceful of water occasionally, but I wouldn't want to risk chemical malfunctions with the other options.
Many times they will let go on their own though, as long as it's a defensive tag. If it's hunger, it may take a few moments for them to figure out you aren't food. (And if you already smell like rat, head to the sink now, because that guy thinks you're dinner! Lol)
