If it would feel hot to you it would be too hot for your snake as body temp is 98.6 so for it to feel hot to us it would be hotter than 98.6

It should feel somewhat warm. Are you feeling the glass, or the pad itself? They do take some time to heat up, so if you just plugged it in, then give it a while. My Zoomed gets up to 125F if run wide open, and that's a fairly small one. I imagine you have a probe thermometer? Use that to see if it's getting up to temp. They always feel very warm to me (so do my snakes when they have been lying on the warm spot), but I have cold hands, some people have warm hands so of course they would feel less warm to them. I'm sure you know this, but I'll add it just in case: you must use a thermostat, or that the very least (and preferably on the short term) a rheostat and probe thermometer with a UTH.

Yes if it felt HOT, but not warm, my hands are definitely not 98.6F, I held a probe thermometer in my hand the other day and it didn't even make it to 80F. I know I have cold hands though, but they aren't freakishly cold.

I' am using a hydrofarm thermostat set to 90 f with the probe in between the glass and uth with a non probe acurite thermometer sitting on top of the substrate that reads around 84 f. By the way I was feeling the mat itself I have my tank setting on bricks for an air pocket between the mat and desk that i have it setting on also have a 60 watt regular lamp bulb on top my humidity is staying around 60%. and it's been running for 7 hrs now

So is it getting to (and above) 90F on the thermostat? If so it sounds like it's working. I have hydrofarms too, and I'd set it a little higher, maybe 92 or 93. It will go above that, but not a lot, and it has to transfer heat through glass and substrate. What substrate are you using btw?

I would use the accurite on the cool side and get a probe thermometer to slightly bury in the substrate in the warm hide to give you a good idea of what temps your snake is actually experiencing. Probe thermometers are really cheap (in fact you can get good ones on ebay for about $2.25)

If you have it set right the UTH should only be warm to the touch. I did a test on one of my UTH that I think is from Zoomed with no thermostat. It got up to a blazing 145 degrees!!

Hydrofarm thermostats are on/off type so once they hit the swing temperature they turn off they will not maintain a constant temperature like a proportional thermostat so as long as the temperature is staying in the safe range I wouldn't worry too much about it
