Rat litters

About forty little ones from one of my colonies. I'm still waiting for the others to get the job done. If anyone has some watering system ideas I'm all ears.

Racks are the way to go. Not sure what your setup is.

This needs to move to the rat section.

I use a gravity automatic watering system. Basically, a 5 gallon bucket of water on the top of the rat rack connected by flexible tubing to several water spouts (similar to the end of a hamster watering bottle) stuck through the wires into the rat drawers.

I saw a 'flood' once at the shop where I buy feed and feeders - it was a sad scene. I won't be going to a watering system unless I have a LOT of rats. I am using 32 oz water bottles from petco - they're 8 bucks a pop but if one leaks or whatever I won't drown or torture any animals. I have to refill them every 3 days or so, but it takes me less than 5 minutes to do so.

This is easily remedied with a drain system. I drain/clean/refill the watering system once a month, sometimes I get lazy and I go for 2.

When I had around 500 OT so rats I did thing because I never got around to. Rack before I downsized, now with oly about 50 including babies I use bowls because most of my feeders are gone within two weeks.

I have heard of the flooding problem though, the local shop here breeds as well and lost over 200 I believe it was due to a malfunction,
