That was kinda harsh and not a nice way to encourage the hobby. Some people just do not have easy access to reptile shows, local breeders, or can afford the shipping. Not all Petco stores are terrible crap-holes. I have two corn snake hatchlings from Petco and they are perfectly healthy, thriving and growing like weeds. Meanwhile, I got a snake from a big-name breeder with mites.

when you are on this forum, you are beyond that, and you will never buy a ball python from a big chain. You buy from local breeders or order from less local breeders, or you pick up rescues.
I think that's more of a personal decision. There are SOME individual pet shops that care for their animals better than others, and could definitely be selling healthy pets to their customers. There are also SOME individual breeders who don't have the best husbandry and sell less than healthy animals.

I think this is all on a case-by-case basis, and shouldn't be completely generalized.

It is... but I'd rather give my money to reputable breeder to support and further them, than dropping it at Petco or Petsmart.

    Same for me.

There are some wonderful breeders on this site alone that I would much rather give my money to than a pet store.
