THG reviews please

I found the old thread where the Rich from RB and Ed from flexwatt had the absurdly long arguement about their products, but now that the THG tape has been out for a awhile I would like some reviews from forum users. I'm not happy with my flexwatt, mine varies in temperature along its length and seems to have a lot of hot spots (and cold spots). If the THG is more consistent I'd like to know so I can upgrade my racks, I'm assuming it still will fit in the grooves for the AP racks? Thanks!

Trash your flexwatt and get the THG. I have replaced every inch of heat tape in my facility with THG and its perfect. Flexwatt is junk.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Flexwatt is "junk" but, I am very happy with my THG heat tape.
It does seem consistent but, mine is less than a year old and it seems pretty durable if you are using it in rack applications.
The big selling point for me was other users had found that if you use the same length/# of elements that the THG did not require rheostats or potentiometers for each strip to maintain each tub at the same temp's. That consistency of manufacture indicates either a better manufacturing process or better quality control.

I agree with this, I had a conversation about this in another post saying similar stuff. I have had flexwatt in one rack system for over 3 years and THG in my new rack. Both are running off a herpstat2 and there is really no difference in them.

Ive done a lil testing what I did was unplugged both racks. After a hour and everything was room temperature I turned them both back on. The flexwatt heated up faster and it had to kick on earlier then THG to keep temps and again its over 3 years old.

For the THG it took almost twice as long to heat from room temp to my set temperature. How ever the THG didnt have to kick on as much to hold temperatures and heres why. The THG would overheat past my desired point (nothing major but just a lil more then the flexwatt), so it didnt have to kick on and work as hard to keep temps.

To say Flexwatt is junk is just silly, and no one can actually tell you why most of the time. Both tapes are great, however I do think THG holds heat better from what I can see. Its also not fair that I was testing it against a 3 year old strip of flexwatt. I plan to do new vs new sometime in the future. Hope this helps you out....

I had brand new Flexwatt and brand new THG.
The flexwatt did not heat well. Some areas were hot, some were cold, some were warm. It is not a consistent heat tape. THG heated up very consistently throughout the whole tape with no hot spots or cold spots.

Also, THG seems to be physically more sturdy than Flexwatt. The build quality seems better in my opinion. Flexwatt seems flimsy and not as strong(thick).

Aaron(serpent merchant) did a review for both of them here on bp.net.
He did an electrical test and found that THG was more efficient and used less power compared Flexwatt to achieve the same temps.

I will not use Flexwatt again. I still think it's junk......

My big problem with the flexwatt is the variation in heat along the length of it. I'm seeing one shelf at 88 and one at 92 on the same strip. If the THG is more consistent along the length I'll happily switch over, if it's just a question of holding heat better, then I see less incentive.

How many shelves is the temp difference?
There will always be a little temperature variation between the top of a rack vs the bottom for example since heat rises.
