Thermorstat is a MUST!! And a dimmer switch if you end up using a heating lamp.

Also, to the world of ball pythons you WILL be addicted to this lol

    Welcome aboard!

We have some excellent source on the for sale section of the forum. Take a look on there!

    Re: Hello all new here

Thanks for the responses. I purchased a 25qt sterilite tub with lid, aspen bedding, the acurite thermometer hygrometer with outdoor probe that ive seen mentioned a lot on here from walmart. Im fixing to order a medium size uth and the hydrofarm thermostat from amazon that ive seen recommended on here as well. Im aware the tub may be a lil big for a juvenile but it was all I could get around here. I was gonna had some fake plants and stuff to kinda clutter it up a bit. Hopefully this well get me started. My wife and I are going to our first reptile expo in okc this sat to look for a snake to buy so we are excited.

You want to make sure you have an appropriate sized heating element controlled by thermostat. Depending on how much you want to spend you can get one off of amazon for about 30 that is on/off, or you can get a proportional type which will run you 115 or more. You want a cool side that stays between 78 and 82 degrees and a warm side that is 88-92 degrees. Should have a hide on both sides that is large enough for your snake to fit in but still touch all sides. A water dish that they can soak in most people use dog bowls. Hope this helps everyone on here is very helpful and nice.
Yup,I just bought my first at the reptile convention in Westchester sept 8 and im now going to the convention on october 13 in Long Island to buy my second. I already have a tank and it's partially set up with a Heat mat, bedding, hygrometer and temp strips. All I need is the heat,uv and night bulbs ,domes,a hide, water bowl and I'm all good

    Re: Hello all new here

i do have another question though. My house usually stays fairly cool as my wife has asthma and cant have it real warm in there. what im worried about is the ambient air temperature in mmy tub not staying warm enough. Is there anything i can do about this. I know people have said use another source of heat but what else can you use on a tub since it is enclosed?I have a uth coming today that im putting on the bottom half of the tub and gonna test the temps after that. Im just trying to get this figured out as im going to buy my first ball python on saturday. We are going 2 hours away to an expo and if i need to get something i can easily get it up there as opposed to home where i cant get anything in the town i live in

Actually a tank would have been better for you. A tub must have room temps of 78-80. There is no way to use any other heat source with a tub.
Can you make one room warmer to keep the snake in?

well i tried shutting the vent in an extra room to keep the room warmer but it doesnt seem to do much good. but i can still get a tank and go with that setup if need be. Ill look around and see what i can find at the reptile expo on sat.

If you can't keep the room at 78-80 you'll need a tank or an enclosure like Animal plastics. You will need the uth, a lamp (either infrared heat or ceramic heat emitter) to keep the ambient temps up.
Typically you should have the setup up and running and make sure the temps stay consistent before picking up the snake

    Re: Hello all new here

would a second uth connected to a rheostat be an option also for a tub or is that out of the question?
