Well, it is not really that bad. It's a problem I've had for a long time. I am just glad it's not hearing loss. And it's nice to know there is a name for it. There is treatment that works on some people called sound therapy. But it is not cheap or cover by insurance.

It happens with certain familiar people too.

I was born here in the US. English is my first language.
But now that I'm really thinking about it, I can understand people better if they have an "Asian fresh off the boat" accent when they speak English.
Like, I am constantly asking my American born boyfriend to repeat what he says. He speaks very clear English.
But I never have to ask my parents, who are immigrants, what they just said in English even though no one else knows what the heck they said.
You should have told me. I would have used an asian accent!

Wow that's crap. It's so stupid that half of the stuff isn't covered by insurance. Pretty soon nothing will be covered by insurance.

I don't have the same issue as you (op) but I do have misophonia which is causing me issues at work like it did at college.

But good luck trying to find a doctor or pcp that understands your situation and doesn't just shrug it off.

I'm the same as the OP. In fact I did away with tv service because I only turn on the TV to watch it - it is paused or turned off unless I'm able to totally focus on it and that's not often because most shows are crap. If someone tries to talk to me over the tv or radio, I probably won't register what was said. I don't attend concerts anymore and I dislike anywhere loud. I even sleep with earplugs in AND a white noise machine and still get woke up by noise most people sleep through.

My boyfriend is the opposite - he always has to have background noise. He's going to need a man cave when we finally live together lol
