    Dropped my baby BP

Hello, I'm not usually one for forums online but I'm really worried about my snake. I've had her about 2 months -- got her as a baby from the pet store. She has always been very active and curious, but two days ago she crawled off my shoulder when I was crouching down to pick something up and she fell upside down maybe 4 feet. I immediately put her back into her terrarium and she crawled into a hide and didn't come out all of yesterday. Today I checked on her by shining a light into her hide and she was coiled in a rather strange way. I checked on her again this evening and she appeared not to have moved. Alarmed, I took her out gently and immediately noticed she barely responded to being touched and picked up. I moved her to the warm side to see if she was just cold and too scared to leave the cold side hide, but it didn't seem to help. She's laying inside my sweater right now and I'm laying down -- she's started moving a little bit but I'm extremely concerned. I am a broke college student so I'd like to avoid the vet unless you guys think its really necessary. I'd be heartbroken if she dies - please help!

She's probably just freaked out. Think about it in the wild I bet baby snakes fall from way higher than that due to climbing and what not. I wouldn't hold her for a few days and just let her settle back down.

    Re: Dropped my baby BP

I put her back -- I did notice she has some sort of dried dark something on her cloaca, could this be blood? Or does their excrement sometimes stick to them?

My adult has actually passed "logs" that we're so big it tore her cloaca a little bit. Scared me to death, but it happens sometimes. Could be excrement though. Just keep an eye in her but let her be for a few days.

I've dropped my 6 month old ball twice and picked him back up. He was fine. I agree though. They have to be a little use to falling.

Keep an eye on it and make sure if does t turn into a prolapse. And I would maybe skip a meal or to because if she's injured she might not pass well.

Can I ask what she fell on? Carpet versus concrete could be a total difference, especially from 4 ft. I mean it could be something but then again it could be nothing. While I've never had a BP fall more then a foot or two from coming out of a rack but it's on carpet and never upside down. I'd keep an eye on her and if she if she doesn't start acting more active then I'd probably start worrying.

Again I can't offer any insight on this but I hope everything is okay. Maybe Skiploader or wilomn can chime in as they've been in the hobby long enough to maybe have something like this happen before or know somebody this has happened to.

Also, can you take a picture of maybe where you think it's dried blood so we have some sort of a visual?

I'm not going to lie....I've dropped a few babies in my day (I don't hold human babies for this reason). What I'm concerned about is that your baby is acting abnormal. Keep an eye on her for sure. To be completely honest, if there is internal damage I don't think a vet could do anything about it, and if they could your next challenge would be finding a capable vet.

I'm also curious about seeing a picture. Do you think it's blood or are you keeping her on a substrate like mulch/bark?

    Re: Dropped my baby BP

You had a baby Ball Python on your shoulder? D: They aren't even big enough to wrap on to you for security... :/ I hope she's okay, Snakes can be traumatized from being dropped. Just leaver her alone for about a week, and then start to check on her again
