    Shipping overseas to Germany

My wife is active duty military and we may be moving to Germany for the next tour of duty. I would hate to give up our babies but I'm not sure how it would go trying to ship them that far away. Has anybody else had to deal with this and have any tips? I had thought about keeping the boas but bps seem to be more sensitive to adversity. Thanks and I appreciate any help or advice you may have.

Wouldn't that fall under exportation to a different country?

As far as doing it, you would "ship" via an air plane to the base or near the base.

not sure if you are trying to be smug or not, of course it would qualify as exportation, call it what you want - creative manipulation of the geographical location of non-inamimate specimens - if your point was that there are regulations that need to be addressed regarding exportation of reptiles, a reference may be helpful.

Insofar as how, my understanding is that within the CONUS, you need to use Fedex for live reptile shipping. Are you stating that all that is needed is the address and any shipping company would do?

try to contact "M&S Reptilien", its a very large reptile breeder, importer and distributor in southern Germany, CEO (german: Inhaber) is Stefan Broghammer, a name you may already know.

For their breeding, they do USA imports. They also do Africa imports. So they should know how to get BPs from the USA to Germany. Stefan Broghammer was one of the first customers of the pinstripe, and he invented the term pinstripe, and was the first to bring that gene to europe.

    http://www.ms-reptilien.de/index.php?language=en

he is CEO and has employees, so just see it as a company and ask the people that answer the phone to help you out with information or with managing the import.

(BTW, my personal opinion... one should not work in the military, it is not really productive.)

    Anyway, i hope this helps

    Re: Shipping overseas to Germany

The cost in shipping exotic animals overseas would be cost-prohibitive unless you're one of those rare individuals for which money is truly no object.

As a military spouse with reptiles, I'm prepared if we ever get stationed overseas, and that preparation does not (cannot) include taking my animals with me. It's just an unfortunate reality we have to deal with.

You may be able to find someone to keep them and take care of them for you until you get back...preferably someone you trust implicitly and that already has plenty of experience and space to keep your animals without it being a burden. Or you may have to sell them and then buy new when you get back.

Even if you stay stateside...if you ever get in a position that forces you to live on base/post...you may not be able to keep them there either. I'm not sure about the Army or other service branches, but all the Air Force bases now have a strict "no exotics" policy for base housing.

Thanks pythonfriend and JLC, I was afraid that the cost of taking them over would be too much but I will try contacting Stefan Broghammer just to cover my bases.

I wasn't, but you're just comfortable firing back with an attitude.

Anyway, that was a suggestion. Yes, you'd be exporting and big names like BHB and mike wilbanks export very selectively and at a large price for single snakes. I'm fairly certain wilbanks has a price requirement for exportation as well.

It was an implication that is not cost effective to take them with you.

    Shipping overseas to Germany

Im active duty military in Germany. I looked into it a few years ago, solely because animals in the states were half the price they are here. That is no longer the case. The answer I got from everyone was its not really worth it. Your best bet imo would be to talk to one of the u.s. breeders that vends at Hamm. If were talking a small number of animals maybe they would help. Your issue is going to then be when you go back. I say not worth it.

I can ask Sean tomorrow when I see him about shipping to Germany to get an idea on price wise. I know he's one of the few people that is able to ship/export legally. PM me if you're interested and I'll talk to him.

Export typically runs $1000+ for the paperwork, permits and shipping. That doesn't include the price/cost of the animal itself. As Judy said, it is typically cost prohibitive for just one or two specimens.

I refer folks to brokers for these types of needs, brokers are already set up and familiar with regular export, they can give you a better idea of the time and expense involved. Try Michael Cole at Ballroom Pythons South, Chun Ku at Dynasty Reptiles or Alex Hue Reptiles.

At ShipYourReptiles we only do domestic shipping.
