    Ball python not hiding anymore?

My baby ball python hasn't been using his hide recently; probably about a week or two. I have his temperatures all right. About 80- 82 on the cool side and 90 on the warm side. The humidity is about 50-60%. I have two hides for him and i have him in a 10 gallon tank since he's still a small baby. He was using his hides before, but about a week or two ago he started constantly moving about his tank. I have no idea why. He eats fine, his husbandry is fine, I just don't understand. I'm thinking it might be because last week I fed him a smaller rat pinky than usual because I was going to try to give him two. He only ate one so I thought maybe he wasn't hiding because he was still hungry and he was hunting. Today I just fed him his usual size mouse and he did eat but he's still not hiding (he's actually half in half out of his hide right now). I'm also thinking maybe it's because he is about to shed? Do they get restless before shedding? Is he looking for more humidity? Should I even worry since he's still eating?.. thanks

Honestly you're over thinking it and worrying over nothing. If your temps are set like you say then you're fine. Some cruise some chill, they just change behavior sometimes so it's not uncommon. He could possibly be going into shed but he'd be more so hiding if that were the case. Mine sit half in half out sometimes. But like I said, if he's eating and all then you're fine. When people are worried and looking for something that may be wrong they normally find something that they find odd or not normal and it makes them worry, so don't be one of those people. Your BP is fine.

What are you heating the cage with? A lot of times when a BP suddenly stops using a hide it is because there is an unregulated heat pad under it that is making it way too hot without the owner knowing.

Re: Ball python not hiding anymore?

I heat the cage with an UTH 24/7 on about 1/3 of the cage and if the ambient temperature starts getting low i turn on a red heat light. I have a thermostat connected to the UTH. I have a electric temperature gauge so i know the exact temp. But actually my BP is actually hiding now. I think it is because he was hungry. Like Neal said, i worried too much and overreacted. I was just getting nervous because he had lost over 10 grams in a week from his constant cruising, but he should gain it back now that he seems to be hiding and is getting larger meals. Thanks for your help!
