if they flicker their tongue properly, BPs have a directional sense of smell, they can smell if a scent comes from the left or the right, humans do not have that skill.

but it requires the usual tongue flickering snakes do. if the tongue does not split but is glued together, the ends not seperating, thats already a bad sign.
