    need experienced opinions on thermostats

    Hey Guys,

So my incubator last year was wired on a herpstat but I pulled it from the setup to add to one of my racks.
I have purchased a few thermostats since last season and was hoping for some opinions.

I have a choice between the following for my incubator:

    - Johnson A419 (non proportional)
    - VE200 (proportional)

Now I would prefer to designate the the vE 200 to a new rack, but I am more concerned about regulating incubation temperatures.

The Johnson A419 has a variation allotment of a 1 degree differential.

    So my question is:

Would you consider the A419 appropriate for incubation, or is a 1 degree differential, with a set point power cut off too substantial of a variation to risk?

    Thanks in advance.

Option 3: VE200 plugged into the Johnson as a backup.

Lol in a perfect world I would agree - but I ordered 2 new racks and one of these thermostats is going to a rack

I would put the Johnson on the rack, a 1 degree temperature variation shouldn't bother your older/larger snakes.

I would only use proportional in and incubator, it keeps the flexwatt running at a steady temp, on/off swings quite a bit. Have you actually tested each one? The VE should do a much better job than the Johnson.

    I have thanks

I wired the A419 about a year ago and was using it with my Boa enclosure but I recently had to sell my boa so it's freed up the thermostat. I like the idea of having the VE system for my racks so that in the future I can have a central hub eventually with all my thermostats together. I might pull one of my herpstats from my QT rack and put it back on the incubator, and just stick the Johnson controller on the QT.

I was just concerned about have a non proportional thermostat for incubating and it looks like I was right to worry LOL.

    Thanks guys,

    Chris.
