    I am definitely not an expert (as I only JUST got my BP yesterday!) but I have been reading lots... from what I've read, basking spot temps should be hovering around 90F, and the air should be around 80-82F (which you said it normally is). Do you have a UTH with thermostat?
    I would also think it miiight be a little too dry for your snake? Also have read that humidity should be around 70% -- I'm already having loads of fun getting this right...

    The more experienced herpers should give you better advise! I mostly commented here to give your post a bit of a bump

    I also wouldn't suspect it to be very odd that your BP likes to dig a tunnel, but I totally understand your concern about the squishing part. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!
