A milestone today; hatchling #1, (who has had its first shed), had its first meal today, taking a F/T hopper mouse without any hesitation at all......yippee! None of the rest of the clutch has even shed yet, but having this one shed and eat reassures me that everything is right on schedule. I'll report back when the others follow suit.

Thanks, I'm relieved; bodes well for the rest of the clutch. I was a bit surprised at how little fuss it was, I've got adult snakes which are much harder to get to feed, but this baby, (Spot), was like, "Oh, that's what I was looking for, I think I'm gonna eat it!".

Cinny #7 had it's first shed today, so I tried best I could with my old (very old) camera to take some pics that showed just how black the black is on these cinny babies. It may be normal for them to be so black, but being my first cinny babies I'm pretty impressed with the color. This one sexed itself by completely distending and spraying all over when I popped him again today, I finally could see the two brighter pink little hemipenes that I missed before; they were teeny tiny, no wonder I couldn't see them. Hopefully one of the other two cinnamons will be female, so far two of the normals are. A total of five have had their first shed, so I will be attempting more first-feedings soon.

Saved the best for last. Cinny male #8, the last to hatch on Sept 2, had it's first shed and is he a real beauty; best of the bunch. I also refined my popping technique and repopped cinny #4 and now firmly believe that one to be a female....so it turns out I got a cinny female out of this clutch after all, (one of the normal babies was female too). Here are photos of that great little #8 male.

I know, they all really beat their cinny sire for looks. I've looked up every photo I can find of cinnamons, (there are thirty-something cinnamon varieties on World of Ball Pythons morph list), and these babies are more similar to cinnamon lesser than regular cinnamon to my eyes. Whatever they are I'm certainly holding back this one and the #4 cinny female for future projects. I might be tempted to let the male cinny #7 go, but the other two aren't going anywhere! Thanks, I like 'em too!

Ok, got some clarification from the previous owner on the cinny sire. He was out of a bin of imports, but that doesn't mean he was wild-caught, as I know they are captive-breeding normals in Africa for the import pet trade. He apparently was one of three different males that were bred to the female that produced the clutch in this thread from 2010: here, so he may or may not be the father of that clutch. It all adds up to "dinker"; he's a real dinker. And, who knows, maybe the stripes came from mom? Fun stuff; very cool!
