    Mazuri Rodent food

So I have been toying with the idea of a starting a small colony since my snake collection seems to keep growing, and with it does the weekly feeding bill at 4.50+ for a small rat at the local pet shop.

So I have been doing my research, and found that I can get Mazuri rodent food locally, for about $28 for a 50lb bag. My question is, how long will that last before it starts to go bad, I would hate to spend money and then my small colony couldn't eat it up fast enough.

If you keep it sealed properly it will stay good for quite some time . I have 20 females and 1 male, 50 lbs typically lasts me 3-4 weeks depending on how many little ones are growing out.

    Mazuri Rodent food

I keep mine in a large Rubbermaid tub with a locking lid, same as my dog food. It keeps for a pretty darn long time. Although I didn't move mine into that to preserve freshness, I did it because my dog kept stealing rat chow

Thanks Guys, I figured it was along the same lines as that, but I wasn't sure, and I wanted to be sure before I moved forward.

Mazuri feed is good for 6 months from the mill date.
After that the nutrients start breaking down and can cause deficiencies.
And if they are left in the heat, the nutrients break down much faster and may go bad within weeks.

So best way to preserve your food is to keep it sealed in a climate controlled room. Even freezing can help as well.
