The substrate was dried sphagnum moss -- I ordered it online, but home and garden places carry it, too. Some folks use it as an incubation medium, and it held up really well.

Ah, I was just curious because I couldn't place it. I have two bricks of that stuff and as a matter of fact I need to make some of it so I can put it in my Rufous Beaked tank because my little one has gone into shed which I noticed when I went looking for them today. He had those beautiful blue eyes!

Cool! I've kinda wondered . . . Do Beaked Snakes like to burrow in general?
Well, sadly, the egg that got gross didn't make it. Looked like the bacteria had managed breach the shell. It would have been a black pastel. But the other egg pipped this morning -- a pewter!
