Racers are fast and if you're wanting to get used to dealing with fast snakes then that's a perfect bet. I'd honestly say any of your rat snakes, racers, garters and that are generally fast when they want to be. Let me ask you a question though, why do you feel you're not ready? Do you mean it experience wise or knowledge wise or cage requirements?
I was always told old world rat snakes are tricky to care for because they're sensitive to changes or mistakes in husbandry, and the only colubrids I've had experience with we're corn snakes and garters. They were all pretty relaxed snakes too
