Now what have I gone and produced???

    Hey gang!

So, most of you know my season this past winter didn't do much because of my depression battles. I did however get a few locks and believe it or not, a clutch of eggs. The babies are hatching now, and I need help figuring out what I've gotten myself into!

Ok, I have a breeder Mojave female, you guys now that. She made my Vanilla Mojave female in 2012. I had been pairing her to my pied male in hopes of getting some mojave het pieds, but she didn't want to lock. So I decided to put my biggest male in with her, my pastel. They did their thing, and after that she locked the pied any time I put them together. Since the pastel was only with her once, I figured I had pretty good chances he wouldn't take and I'd still get my het pieds. She had 7 eggs on July 13th and they were all fertile.

The way I saw it, if her clutch was only mojaves and normals, I'd call them het pieds. If by some freak chance there was a pastel in the mix, then I'd simply figure the pied lost out this year. So the first head pipped, and hubby says no doubt it was a mojave. So far, so good. Then I decided to cut the rest. Mojave, Mojave, mojave somthing?, Mojave something?, what the heck is that thing?, mojave I think?, mojave something?. I'm just a little bit puzzled, but I figure the pastel must have taken, and what I am seeing is likely Pastaves, mojaves and probably a pastel.

Then tonight, three have hatched. And I gotta tell you, I'm not exactly sure what to think. Two are Pastave, I'm pretty sure. The orange one?? I'm not so sure. Tell me your honest opinions guys, am I just seeing what I want to see, or is there something a little bit off to you guys as well.

I've got four still in the egg, and I can't wait to see what else is waiting for me!!

So you guys think even with that ridiculous head fade it's just a pastel?

I know, I know I should be able to tell by looking at it. Lord knows I tell enough people here they have "just a pastel" even with a faded head. I guess now I know why people post those pictures. When it's in your hand it's different.

Well, time will tell when they shed out. But I gotta tell you, I think that pastel might just be staying, boy or girl!

Congrats on some nice looking babies Gale!

And, yeah that looks like a nice pastel. I had a couple this year that had really nice faded heads out of the egg and pre-shed. It will most likely darken after first and second shed. It's a looker though!!
