Overall time of the day to handle a ball python?

hello! I just have a hopefully quick question

As I don't feel comfortable, or very nice, to lift up the poor fellows hide and expose him like that in order to handle him for a few minutes to get him used to it, what would be the best time to do that? I don't want him to never be handled, then not be used to it, and not be tame.

Should I wait until he comes out on his own late at night, when it seems like he would actually like to be taken out for a few minutes?

Just move the hide. BP's stay in their hides 99% of the time. You aren't going to traumatize your snake by doing so.

If you are worried about getting bit in the process of moving the hide then use a snake hook or something similar to lift the hide.

I tried to remove the hide, problem is he really really likes it and he pushes himself into it and I don't want to force him out since he's pretty strong, he would not come out at all.

I play with my balls any time I feel like it. Sometimes in the early morning hours, sometimes late at night. Right after a nap.... When you get the urge just do it!

It would probably be best to replace that hide. If you can't easily remove your snake from it, it will only be a source of frustration for you. I can speak from personal experience on that one.

Something like this would be ideal:

If you want to have a more naturalistic look, any of the cave style hides should work as well.

Avoid any wood (half log) hides as they mold easily.
Avoid any hides like the one you have now.
