I'm not a vet either, but that does sound a bit unusual. Might be worth a second opinion. Those prices sound astronomical and a bit unnecessary to me - you ought to be able to give the snakes shots of Baytril at home yourself. There are many qualified vets who show their clients how to do that. But there may be extenuating circumstances. I hope the vet you went to was highly recommended.

New arrivals :)
I went to one that was a recognized and accredited herpetological clinic and also is a member of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians.
But ya prices seem high.

Well, that explains the high prices. Personally, I would ask about a different regimen of antibiotics - one that you can do at home to save some money. But I am also used to giving my dogs their meds, etc, so I'm quite comfortable with that sort of thing. But it's worth asking if you are too.

Yeah, this is one of those things that you either have to be experienced and comfortable with it, or you pay I guess. Too bad you don't live by Kali. I'd be over there asking questions left and right but here,,,, I have a pretty good reptile store and I think they'd get me to the right place. I've paid out enormous amounts of cash for dogs. But that is because we compete in protection trials and have to have top notch dogs for them.
We feed our dogs RAW food just like snakes would eat. It's an all natural show here LOL!
But I'll admit I have zero experience with unhealthy snakes so I'd probably be in a bind. The good news is I'd hit Evenstar up for some advice and consult with the reptile store. I think after that I'd have some type of angle to save a few bucks.
You are doing the right thing!! Just get them healthy and don't let us rain on your decision. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
I respect the fact you are caring so much!
With all the people who dump pets when the going gets tough,, you should be saluted!!!
With some experience and time you may very well be able to do some stuff yourself but that's for later.
Good job right now!!

Ya I give all our cats and dogs, even fish their medications, but I'm new to meds for reptiles. Shoot I haven't even had sick reptiles before lol.

It's ok - if you're in this game long enough, you're gonna have a sick reptile or two. It's inevitable. The important thing is that you are taking the necessary steps to get them well!
