    Herpstat 4 data port

how many people on here use a herpstat 4? I am really curious and interested in buying one. I heard they are the best...product and customer service wise. The biggest question I have concerns the data port that the manual says is for, "future use". I have seen the uploader pdf as well, and it looks pretty outdated and cumbersome. Is this true? Is it easy and convenient to check on the temps via the internet? Is there an app or do you have to log in to some middle man link/site thingy? With all the new technology, I am surprised there isn't a link to monitor the temps when away from home...that would be super duper uber cool. Any feedback from people who own one would be awesome.

    I use herpstat 4's.

Herpstat 4's are great. Don't worry about the data port. I never use it.

The uploader isn't compatible with the herpstat 4, it is for the old herpstat 2 and herpstat pro, both are discontinued models.

The herpstat 4 currently doesn't have the ability to be monitored via the internet. Nor is it ability to do so really worth the extra complexity to do so.

    Re: Herpstat 4 data port

I can see what you are saying. It is a proven product that is reliable. However, with all the moder tech now, I would think it would be pretty easy to have an app to check all the temps when not home...for peace of mind purposes. What is the data port for then if that uploader was for the older models?

I believe the data port is there so you can update the herpstat's software/firmware. This could result in new/tweaked features. At this point there isn't any obvious use for it.

It's more complicated/costly than you might think. The reality is that the herpstat 4 is such a stable thermostat that anything short of a power outage isn't going to cause your temperatures to change more than a degree or so.
