    Heating Problems

    Hello Everyone!

I have been a long-time lurker. I did have an account at one point, but unfortunately, I forgot the username/password. So, being that I have a question, I made a new account!

I have a 55 gallon glass aquarium. The hot side, I have a temp between 90-92. But on the cold side, I can't get the temp above 74. (There is no snake in it yet, I'm trying to get the tank set up and running how I want, before I do that) I was thinking about buying another UTH & thermostat, but I figured I would ask and see if anyone had any ideas before I spent the money!

    Thanks!

Welcome back!! Hopefully you will remember the password now

Heat lamps are usually good for raising the ambient temperature...as long as they're on a rheostat or thermostat thingy.

    Welcome back!

UTH's don't increase the temperature of the air in the cage, for that you will need a heat lamp.

I would recommend getting a 75 watt infrared heat lamp like this one:

Hook it up to a thermostat or lamp dimmer. Place the heat lamp in the center of the cage, and dial it in so it maintains the air temperature in the cage at 80 F. Your UTH will generate the 90 degree hot spot.
